Todays-Woman Topic: Writing Advice » Dazzling Queries

By Teresa Slack
Whenever I speak to a group of writers someone in the room will ask what to include in a query. Writing a book is tough enough, but getting the attention of a publisher or agent once it’s finished makes the writing process look like a walk in the park. You have about two seconds to hook them enough to keep reading. They don’t know how talented you are, and telling them won’t win you any fans. You’ve got to show them, and fast.

They think the lack of confidence, motivation or experience is based on a far more serious problem. They're half-right. What they don't realize is, that IS writer's block, or at least some of the symptoms of it. But they are right about it being more serious, because writer's block IS serious. Fortunately, it's also curable...

Todays-Woman Topic: Interviews » Interview with H. Thomas Saylor

By Rose DesRochers

H. Thomas Saylor spent more than 30 years as a producer and manager of communications for Fortune 500 companies. Today, he makes his career as a writer and independent consultant. A native of Michigan, Saylor spends much of his time at a Harsen’s Island cottage retreat. It was there that he wrote most of his newest book "When One Door Closes: A Teen’s Inspiring Journey and Living Legacy." I recently had the privilege to talk to Saylor about his writing career and both of his published books.
